Agro-Food Processing Industries

Tamil Nadu Technology Development & Promotion Center of CII is organizing the 2-Days Workshop on 'Business Opportunities in Agro-Food Processing Industries' on 1-2 July, 2011 at MSME-Development Institute, Guindy, Chennai.

The objective of the workshop is to identify new thrust areas in the new agro business arena and new revenue generating business in the agro sector with complete business proposals. Growth in agriculture sector would have wider impact in both rural and urban areas. Through its strong backward and forward linkages with the other sectors, agricultural growth would have a greater multiplier effect. Besides, modernization of agriculture and globalization process has opened new avenues such as processed foods, export oriented production, medicinal and aromatic plants, and organic farming etc.

Strategic objectives of business need to be kept in mind while making decisions about new business, technology and finance. It includes understanding and developing strategic business model, identification of market & technology needs, benchmarking of organisation & product range and sourcing of technology in the first phase. This has to be followed by a structured mechanism to facilitate technology acquisition, training, adoption and diffusion in a commercially viable manner, commensurate with local operating conditions and supply chain as well as market linkages.

It is hence that we have conceived this workshop with a new agro business systems approach in mind and focusing on business opportunities, developing realistic strategies that address identified issues, enhancing and delivering high-impact projects targeted on critical needs and deliver overall project proposals. A Business plan is required in all proposals, and a summary of all activities is required in all final project reports.

The workshop will provide opportunity to work on 10 different business proposals with support from faculty and other participants. All training material along with complete business proposal would be provided to the participants in CD ROM on request.

The focus areas of the new agro business/ project proposal are as follows

  • Introduction: General outline , Basic requirements and also statistical data.
  • Need: Present demand and growth, the optimum location for the project, raw material feasibility, power and other necessary resources
  • Technology: Technical feasibility, availability of the machineries will be covered. Good manufacturing practices, product development, other quality, and safety policies
  • Marketing Scope: Market analysis based on past data of domestic as well as overseas market. Export assistance policies from varies organization as well as availing the benefit. Bring the facility to attract overseas customers and demand.
  • Budget: Complete and broad discussion on Project cost, financial assistance ,project report preparation, CMA analysis and making project structure based on norms as well as schemes.

The target audiences for this workshop are persons who are principally interested to explore opportunities in food manufacturing sectors like fruits & vegetables, baking and confectionary, dairy, spices, ready to eat foods, frozen foods, etc., and educators/trainers who work with these food companies.
